“I had an excellent experience with this electrician from start to finish. Communication was prompt and professional, the work was completed on schedule, and the quality of craftsmanship was outstanding. They took the time to explain the process clearly, addressed all of my questions, and ensured everything was completed safely and up to code. The attention to detail, professionalism, and respect for my home truly stood out. I would confidently recommend their services to anyone looking for reliable, high-quality electrical work. After a tree fell and took out the power line to our home, Brandon from Schultz Family Electric was at our house within the hour. After evaluating the damage, the news wasn’t great due to the age of our home, but Brandon immediately reassured us by saying, ‘Don’t worry. I got you.’ And he absolutely did. The entire housing setup needed to be upgraded, and he wasted no time getting started. He provided a precise and fair estimate, set us up with a generator for temporary power, and kept us informed every step of the way. Brandon and his coworker, Armando, completed the entire job in just one day. Their efficiency, professionalism, and dedication during such a stressful situation were truly exceptional. Brandon and Armando are genuinely good people: trustworthy, friendly, and honest. It’s rare to find contractors who combine such high-quality workmanship with integrity and compassion. I know I still have more projects to complete on my home, and Brandon will absolutely be the first person I call for any future electrical work.”

Would highly recommend! Brandon came to see us after hours the day we called to help us with our set up. We got a portable generator and had never owned any sort of generator before. He explained everything which we needed and any additional add-ons we might want for the future, but did not push us on ANYTHING. He showed us exactly the parts we needed on Amazon we could get ourselves to save a bit of money as well. Workers came out and were done in the span of 2 hours or so. They even did a little extra by routing the wiring so that the port outlet for the generator could be behind our fence as we asked for safety purposes. After all was done they showed us the steps on getting the generator running during outages and we did a test run so make sure all went well. They will also do maintenance and checks on your generator annually or bi-annually each year so to make sure all is well before hurricane season. Definitely will be my go to electrician.

Outdoor Lighting Installation Service

Outdoor lighting installation covers the full range of exterior lighting that makes a property safer, more secure, and more inviting after dark. Good outdoor lighting serves several purposes at once, guiding guests safely up a walkway while quietly deterring anyone who does not belong. Landscape lighting brings out the best in trees, gardens, and architectural features that simply disappear once the sun sets. Security lighting takes a different job, illuminating entryways, side yards, and the dark corners where trouble likes to hide. Accent lighting works more subtly, drawing the eye to the details that make your particular property special. Beyond looks and safety, outdoor lighting extends the hours you can actually enjoy a patio, a deck, or any outdoor living space. Schultz Family Electric designs and installs each of these types to serve your specific goals and to survive our coastal weather. We rely on weatherproof methods and materials chosen for the Gulf Coast environment, never on parts meant for a milder climate. Throughout the process, we plan the lighting around how you genuinely use and move through your property. Once you understand the different purposes outdoor lighting serves, it becomes clear how completely it can transform a home after dark.

Weatherproof installation is the single most important factor in outdoor lighting that actually lasts in our climate. Outdoor wiring and fixtures sit exposed to rain, humidity, and salt air around the clock, and ordinary equipment simply cannot take that punishment. Anything not rated for these conditions corrodes, fails, and leaves you replacing fixtures far sooner than you should have to. To prevent that, we install weatherproof, corrosion resistant fixtures and use materials chosen for the environment they will face. Every connection gets sealed against moisture, because a single unsealed splice is all it takes for water to start its slow damage. We match fixtures to their location as well, using wet rated units where rain hits directly and damp rated units under cover. The wiring itself must be rated and protected for outdoor and underground use, which is not the same as standard indoor cable. We select the right material for each part of the run, from the fixture leads to the buried feeder. This careful attention to the climate is exactly what keeps your lighting working season after season. Building for the conditions from the start is always cheaper than paying to fix premature failure later.

Buried wiring demands the proper depth and protection if it is going to stay safe and durable for years. Most outdoor lighting involves wiring run underground to fixtures scattered across a yard, and that wiring lives in a harsh, wet environment. The code sets minimum burial depths based on the wiring method, and those depths exist for good reason. Wiring placed too shallow can be sliced by a shovel, snagged by an aerator, or exposed as the soil settles over time. We bury every run at the required depth, using the correct direct burial cable or conduit for the situation. Where the wiring rises out of the ground to reach a fixture or a panel, we protect that vulnerable transition point carefully. We also note the routes so that future landscaping or digging does not turn into an accidental cut line. Proper burial shields the wiring from both physical damage and the constant moisture in our soil. On every underground run, we follow the code rather than guessing at a depth that seems good enough. Wiring buried the right way keeps your outdoor lighting both safe to touch and reliable to use.

GFCI protection is not optional on outdoor lighting and receptacles; the code requires it, and so does common sense. Outdoor circuits live surrounded by moisture, and moisture is exactly what turns a minor fault into a dangerous shock. A GFCI watches the circuit constantly and cuts power in a fraction of a second the instant it senses current leaking to ground. That speed is what protects anyone who touches a faulted fixture while standing on wet grass. We install the GFCI protection your outdoor lighting requires, using weather resistant devices paired with proper in use covers. Those covers matter, because an outdoor receptacle needs protection even while a cord is plugged into it during a rain. The protection guards directly against the shock hazard that water and electricity create together. Before we finish, we test every device to confirm it trips and resets exactly as it should. We never skip this step or treat it as an upsell, because real safety depends on it being there. Done correctly, GFCI protection makes the entire outdoor electrical system safe for your family to be around.

Lighting controls add both convenience and efficiency to an outdoor lighting system. A simple timer turns lights on and off automatically, so you are never fumbling for a switch after dark or leaving them burning all night. Photocells take a smarter approach, sensing daylight and switching the lights on at dusk and off again at dawn without any input from you. Motion sensors serve security directly, snapping on the moment they detect movement near an entry or a driveway. Smart controls go further still, letting you manage the entire system from your phone whether you are home or away. All of these options save energy by running the lights only when they are genuinely needed. They also improve security, since a property that lights itself on schedule never looks empty to someone watching. We install the controls that actually fit how you live and use your space, not a one size fits all package. Each control gets wired correctly for reliable, predictable operation year after year. Good controls are what make outdoor lighting feel effortless instead of like one more thing to manage.

Energy efficient LED lighting is the natural choice for outdoor applications, and the reasons stack up quickly. LED fixtures draw far less power than the older halogen and incandescent outdoor lighting they have replaced. They also last dramatically longer, which matters enormously when a fixture sits at the top of a tall pole or buried in a flower bed. LEDs throw bright, clean light that serves security and visibility well, with none of the slow warm up older bulbs needed. They tolerate the outdoor environment far better than fragile glass bulbs that crack and corrode. Across the many hours outdoor lights run each year, the energy savings genuinely add up on your bill. LEDs also pair beautifully with timers, photocells, and motion sensors, since they switch instantly and handle constant cycling without complaint. We install LED outdoor lighting chosen for both efficiency and long service life. Every fixture we use is rated for the outdoor location it will occupy. Over time, LED lighting delivers lasting savings while giving you better, more reliable light than the alternatives.

Every outdoor lighting installation at Schultz Family Electric follows the same thoughtful process from the first visit to the final test. We start by walking your property with you, learning your goals and noticing the features worth lighting and the corners worth securing. From there, we design the layout, the fixtures, and the controls around how you actually use the space. We confirm the circuits and capacity needed, then run weatherproof wiring buried at the proper depth to each location. Connections get sealed, GFCI protection gets installed and tested, and every fixture gets set to throw light exactly where you want it. You receive a fair, upfront price before any work begins, with no surprises waiting at the end. The moment you choose us for the job, the diagnostic fee disappears. We pull permits and coordinate inspections whenever the scope calls for them, keeping the work fully legal and documented. Every installation carries our lifetime craftsmanship warranty, and a knowledgeable person always answers when you call.

The Importance of a Licensed Electrician for Outdoor Lighting Installation in Angleton

Outdoor lighting combines electricity with constant moisture, and that combination makes professional installation a genuine safety matter rather than a nicety. A licensed electrician understands the weatherproofing, the burial depths, and the GFCI requirements that keep an outdoor system safe to be around. Earning that license is no small thing; it takes passing exams, logging supervised hours in the field, and proving real competence before anyone is trusted on their own. In Angleton, outdoor circuits and buried wiring often require a permit and an inspection, and only a licensed contractor can pull that permit. The risks of amateur work are real, because an unsealed connection or shallow buried cable can create a shock hazard exactly where people walk barefoot. A licensed electrician also knows which fixtures and materials survive the salt air and which will rust away within a season. Insurance coverage can hinge on this too, since an insurer may deny a claim tied to unpermitted or improper outdoor wiring. Schultz Family Electric holds license number 748217 and backs every job with a lifetime craftsmanship warranty, so the work is inspected, documented, and guaranteed. When wet ground and live current meet across your yard, the expertise of a licensed professional is what keeps your family safe. For something the whole household walks past every evening, that protection is well worth it.

Commonly Asked Outdoor Lighting Installation Questions

Outdoor lighting makes a property safer, more secure, and more beautiful, but only when it is installed with the weatherproofing and protection our climate demands. These are the questions Angleton homeowners ask us most often before scheduling outdoor lighting installation:

Line voltage and low voltage describe the two main approaches to powering outdoor lighting, and they suit different jobs. Line voltage lighting runs on the standard 120 volts that powers the rest of your home, the same current that feeds your indoor outlets. Low voltage lighting steps that power down to 12 volts through a transformer, which makes it safer to work around and gentler on the landscape. Most decorative landscape lighting uses the low voltage approach because the smaller wiring is easier to route through beds and along paths. Line voltage tends to handle the brighter, more demanding jobs like floodlights, security fixtures, and area lighting. The choice often comes down to how much light you need and where the fixtures will sit. We help you weigh the two options against your actual goals for the property. Each approach has its place, and a well designed system sometimes uses both.

The practical differences show up in installation and safety as much as in brightness. Low voltage wiring can be buried at a shallower depth and poses far less shock risk if it is ever nicked. A transformer sits between the house power and the low voltage fixtures, and that transformer needs proper sizing and a protected location. Line voltage lighting, by contrast, follows the same rules as any outdoor circuit, including GFCI protection and code depth burial. Because line voltage carries the full household current, the consequences of a fault are more serious. That is exactly why line voltage outdoor work belongs with a licensed electrician rather than a weekend project. We install both types correctly, matching the method to the fixture and the situation. The right approach delivers the look you want without ever compromising safety.

Schultz Family Electric helps you choose between the two based on your real needs. We look at the fixtures you want, the brightness each area requires, and how the wiring must route across the property. For soft landscape accents, we often recommend low voltage for its safety and flexibility. For bright security and area lighting, line voltage frequently makes more sense. When a property calls for both, we design a system that combines them cleanly. We size any transformer correctly and protect every line voltage circuit to code. We explain the tradeoffs in plain terms so the decision is genuinely yours. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. The right mix gives you beautiful, reliable lighting that fits how you live.

The required burial depth for outdoor lighting wire depends on the wiring method and the type of circuit it carries. Direct burial cable, conduit, and low voltage wiring each have their own minimum depths set by the code. Those depths exist to protect the wiring from shovels, settling soil, and the ordinary disturbances a yard sees over the years. As a general rule, standard direct burial cable on a household circuit must sit well below the surface, deeper than most people expect. Wiring run inside rigid conduit can sometimes be buried a little shallower, since the conduit adds its own protection. Low voltage landscape wiring is allowed at a shallower depth because it carries far less current and far less risk. We follow the specific code requirement for whatever method your installation uses. Guessing at a depth that seems good enough is exactly how cut lines and exposed cable happen later.

Burial depth is about more than just satisfying a rule on paper. Wire placed too shallow becomes a hazard the first time someone digs a planting hole or drives a stake into the ground. Settling and erosion can also expose shallow wiring over time, leaving it vulnerable to damage and moisture. Where the wiring rises out of the ground, that transition needs protection too, because it is a common point of failure. We sleeve and protect those vulnerable spots so the cable is not left exposed at the surface. We also plan the routes thoughtfully, keeping wiring clear of areas where future digging is likely. Marking the runs helps anyone doing landscaping later avoid an accidental strike. Done properly, the buried wiring stays safely out of harm’s way for the long haul.

Schultz Family Electric buries every outdoor run to the correct depth for its type. We identify the wiring method first, then apply the burial depth the code requires for it. We use the proper direct burial cable or conduit rather than substituting indoor wiring. We protect the wiring where it enters and exits the ground at fixtures and the panel. We route the runs to avoid the spots where digging is most likely. We note the routes so future work does not strike a buried line. We explain the depth requirements in plain terms so you understand the work. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the job. Wiring buried the right way keeps your lighting safe and trouble free for years.

Yes, outdoor lights and receptacles require GFCI protection, and the reason traces directly back to moisture. Anything outdoors lives surrounded by rain, dew, sprinklers, and humidity, all of which create paths for current to leak where it should not. A GFCI monitors the circuit constantly, comparing the current going out against the current coming back. The instant those amounts fall out of balance, which signals a leak to ground, the device cuts power in a fraction of a second. That speed is what protects a person who touches a faulted fixture while standing on wet ground. A standard breaker offers no such protection, since it only responds to overloads and shorts, not to current leaking through a body. The code requires GFCI protection on outdoor circuits precisely because of this elevated shock risk. We install it on every outdoor lighting and receptacle circuit without exception.

Proper outdoor GFCI protection involves more than just the right device. Outdoor receptacles need weather resistant outlets paired with in use covers that shield them even while a cord is plugged in. A standard cover only protects an empty outlet, which is useless during the rain when a cord is connected. The GFCI device itself must be rated for the conditions and sealed against the moisture it will face. We test every device after installation, confirming it trips on a simulated fault and resets cleanly. Along the coast, corrosion can degrade an outdoor GFCI over time, so we use quality devices built to last. We also show you how to test the protection periodically so you know it is still working. These details separate protection that works from protection that merely looks present.

Schultz Family Electric installs and verifies outdoor GFCI protection on every job. We use weather resistant devices and proper in use covers for outdoor receptacles. We protect every outdoor lighting circuit with the GFCI the code requires. We seal the installation against the moisture our climate constantly delivers. We test each device to confirm it trips and resets as designed. We select quality components that hold up against coastal corrosion. We explain how to check the protection yourself between visits. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. Correct GFCI protection is what makes your outdoor electrical system truly safe.

Outdoor lighting improves home security in ways both obvious and subtle. A well lit property removes the darkness that anyone up to no good depends on for cover. Bright entryways, illuminated walkways, and lit side yards leave far fewer places to hide. Motion activated lighting adds a startling element, snapping on the instant someone approaches and signaling that they have been noticed. A home that lights itself on a schedule never looks empty, even when you are away for the evening or the week. Strategically placed fixtures eliminate the shadowed corners that an intruder would otherwise use to stay unseen. The mere presence of good lighting often deters trouble before it ever begins. Security lighting works alongside cameras and alarms, making each of them more effective. Light, in short, is one of the simplest and most cost effective security tools available.

The way the lighting is designed matters as much as how much of it there is. Floodlights aimed at entry points cover the spots most likely to draw unwanted attention. Motion sensors at the garage and back door catch movement where it counts without burning energy all night. Pathway lighting guides family and guests safely while removing the dark stretches near the house. Photocells and timers ensure the property is never left dark by a forgotten switch. Layering these approaches creates a system that responds intelligently rather than just blasting light everywhere. We plan the placement around the actual vulnerable points of your specific property. Good design produces real security, not just a bright yard.

Schultz Family Electric designs outdoor lighting that genuinely improves your security. We walk the property to identify the dark corners and vulnerable entry points. We place security fixtures and motion sensors where they do the most good. We add photocells and timers so the property lights itself reliably. We coordinate the lighting with any cameras or alarms you already have. We use durable, weatherproof fixtures built to keep working in our climate. We explain the plan in plain terms so you understand how it protects you. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. A well lit property is a safer property, and that peace of mind is real.

LED outdoor lights are well worth their higher upfront cost for nearly every homeowner. The savings begin immediately, since LEDs draw a fraction of the power that older halogen and incandescent fixtures consumed. Outdoor lights often run for many hours every night, so that lower draw adds up steadily on your electric bill. The longer lifespan delivers an even bigger advantage, because outdoor fixtures are frequently hard to reach for replacement. A bulb at the top of a pole or tucked into a flower bed is a real chore to change, and LEDs spare you that chore for years. Beyond the money, LEDs produce brighter, cleaner light that serves both beauty and security better. They also handle our outdoor environment far better than fragile bulbs that crack or corrode. When you total the energy savings and the avoided replacements, the higher purchase price pays itself back quickly.

The advantages of LED reach beyond just dollars and longevity. LEDs reach full brightness the instant they switch on, with none of the warm up older outdoor bulbs needed. That instant response makes them ideal for motion activated security lighting that has to react immediately. They also tolerate constant on and off cycling without the wear that shortened the life of older bulbs. LEDs come in a range of color temperatures, so you can choose warm light for ambiance or cooler light for visibility. Their lower heat output reduces fire risk near foliage and structures. They pair seamlessly with timers, photocells, and smart controls. All of these qualities make LED the clear standard for modern outdoor lighting.

Schultz Family Electric installs LED outdoor lighting chosen for efficiency and durability. We select fixtures rated for the outdoor location each one will occupy. We help you choose color temperatures that suit beauty or security as needed. We pair the LEDs with the controls that fit how you use your lighting. We explain the energy savings and the long life in plain terms. We never push more fixtures than your property actually needs. We stand behind the installation with our lifetime craftsmanship warranty. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. LED outdoor lighting delivers lasting value along with better light.

Yes, we install outdoor lighting on existing homes regularly, and most properties are excellent candidates. Adding lighting to a finished home takes more planning than wiring it during construction, but skilled work keeps the disruption minimal. We tap into an existing circuit with available capacity or run a new dedicated circuit when the load calls for it. From there, we route the wiring through attics, along eaves, and underground to reach each fixture location. Burying the feeder runs lets us place fixtures out in the yard, well away from the house itself. We choose paths that minimize wall and ceiling openings, then patch any access points we do need to make. The result looks intentional and clean, as though the lighting had always been part of the home. An existing home rarely poses a real obstacle to a well designed outdoor lighting system.

The approach depends on your property and the lighting you have in mind. A home with an accessible attic and crawl space gives us easy routes for the wiring. Fixtures mounted on the house, like floodlights and entry lights, often tie in cleanly through existing pathways. Landscape and pathway lighting out in the yard relies on buried wiring run from a convenient source. We assess your home’s construction to plan the least invasive route to each fixture. Where the panel lacks capacity, we discuss the options honestly before adding load. We coordinate the whole plan so the finished system works as one cohesive design. Good planning is what keeps the installation clean on an existing home.

Schultz Family Electric adds outdoor lighting to existing homes cleanly and correctly. We assess your home and property to plan the least invasive approach. We confirm the circuit capacity and add a dedicated circuit when needed. We route wiring through attics, eaves, and underground to each fixture. We bury the runs to code and protect every connection against moisture. We install GFCI protection and weatherproof fixtures throughout the system. We explain the plan and any access points before we begin. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. A thoughtful installation brings beautiful, secure lighting to a home that never had it.

Outdoor lighting that keeps failing is almost always telling you about a problem with the installation or the environment. Moisture intrusion is the most common culprit, since a connection that was never properly sealed lets water work its way in. Corrosion follows close behind, attacking terminals and sockets in our salty coastal air until the connection stops conducting. A failing GFCI may also be cutting power when it senses moisture on the circuit, which is the device doing its job. Loose connections, buried damage from digging, and undersized wiring can all produce intermittent failures that come and go. Cheap fixtures not rated for outdoor use simply break down faster than they should. Sometimes the bulbs themselves are the issue, especially if older non LED bulbs are being run hard outdoors. Finding the real cause means inspecting the wiring, the connections, and the protection rather than just swapping fixtures.

The pattern of the failure often points toward the cause. Lights that fail after rain suggest moisture reaching a connection somewhere on the circuit. A GFCI that trips repeatedly is usually sensing a genuine leak, frequently from a corroded or water logged fixture. Lights that flicker or dim point toward a loose connection or a voltage problem. A single fixture failing while the rest work fine isolates the issue to that fixture or its connection. Widespread failure across the circuit suggests a problem closer to the source. We read these patterns to narrow the diagnosis quickly. Tracing the fault to its true origin is the only way to stop the failures for good.

Schultz Family Electric solves recurring outdoor lighting failures at the source. We inspect the connections, the fixtures, and the GFCI protection for the real cause. We look for moisture intrusion, corrosion, and the loose connections our climate creates. We test the circuit and the protective devices to confirm what is happening. We reseal connections, replace corroded components, and correct any wiring faults. We recommend properly rated weatherproof fixtures where cheap ones have failed. We explain what we found in plain terms so you understand the fix. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the repair. Fixing the true cause restores lighting that stays on through every storm season.

Maintaining an outdoor lighting system keeps it both safe and reliable, and most of the work is simple once you know what to watch. Fixtures collect dirt, leaves, and spider webs over time, all of which dim the light and trap moisture against the housing. A gentle cleaning every few months restores brightness and helps the fixtures shed water the way they should. Lenses and covers deserve a check as well, since a cracked lens lets moisture reach the wiring inside. Trimming back the plants that creep over landscape fixtures prevents both blocked light and trapped dampness. You should also glance at the connections and fixture bases now and then for any sign of corrosion or standing water. Testing the GFCI protection periodically confirms that the safety device is still doing its job. None of this takes long, but it makes a real difference in how long the system lasts.

Our coastal climate adds a few maintenance concerns that drier regions never deal with. Salt air corrodes metal fixtures and connections faster here, so the hardware needs more frequent inspection. After a heavy storm, it is worth checking that no fixtures were knocked loose and no buried wiring was exposed by erosion. Standing water around an in ground fixture is a warning sign that a seal may be failing. Bulbs that burn out far sooner than expected often point to moisture or a voltage issue rather than a bad bulb. Timers and photocells occasionally drift or fail and may need adjustment to keep the schedule accurate. Catching these small issues early prevents the larger failures that leave a property dark. A quick seasonal once over goes a long way in this environment.

Schultz Family Electric helps you keep your outdoor lighting in good working order. We can inspect the fixtures, connections, and protection during any visit to your property. We check for the corrosion, moisture intrusion, and worn seals that our climate creates. We test the GFCI protection and the controls to confirm everything functions as it should. We replace failed components with properly rated weatherproof parts. We point out anything that needs attention and explain it in plain terms. We never recommend work that the system does not genuinely need. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for any resulting repair. A little maintenance keeps your lighting bright, safe, and reliable for many years.
