“I had an excellent experience with this electrician from start to finish. Communication was prompt and professional, the work was completed on schedule, and the quality of craftsmanship was outstanding. They took the time to explain the process clearly, addressed all of my questions, and ensured everything was completed safely and up to code. The attention to detail, professionalism, and respect for my home truly stood out. I would confidently recommend their services to anyone looking for reliable, high-quality electrical work. After a tree fell and took out the power line to our home, Brandon from Schultz Family Electric was at our house within the hour. After evaluating the damage, the news wasn’t great due to the age of our home, but Brandon immediately reassured us by saying, ‘Don’t worry. I got you.’ And he absolutely did. The entire housing setup needed to be upgraded, and he wasted no time getting started. He provided a precise and fair estimate, set us up with a generator for temporary power, and kept us informed every step of the way. Brandon and his coworker, Armando, completed the entire job in just one day. Their efficiency, professionalism, and dedication during such a stressful situation were truly exceptional. Brandon and Armando are genuinely good people: trustworthy, friendly, and honest. It’s rare to find contractors who combine such high-quality workmanship with integrity and compassion. I know I still have more projects to complete on my home, and Brandon will absolutely be the first person I call for any future electrical work.”

Would highly recommend! Brandon came to see us after hours the day we called to help us with our set up. We got a portable generator and had never owned any sort of generator before. He explained everything which we needed and any additional add-ons we might want for the future, but did not push us on ANYTHING. He showed us exactly the parts we needed on Amazon we could get ourselves to save a bit of money as well. Workers came out and were done in the span of 2 hours or so. They even did a little extra by routing the wiring so that the port outlet for the generator could be behind our fence as we asked for safety purposes. After all was done they showed us the steps on getting the generator running during outages and we did a test run so make sure all went well. They will also do maintenance and checks on your generator annually or bi-annually each year so to make sure all is well before hurricane season. Definitely will be my go to electrician.

Electrical Grounding Service

Electrical grounding is the safety system that gives stray and fault current a controlled path back to the earth and the source. Every electrical system needs a reliable way to handle current that escapes its intended path, and grounding provides exactly that. When a fault sends current somewhere it does not belong, the grounding system carries it safely away rather than letting it pass through a person. This protective path is the quiet difference between a fault that simply trips a breaker and a fault that delivers a fatal shock. Grounding works hand in hand with the breakers, allowing them to sense a fault and cut the power quickly. Without a proper ground, a fault can energize metal surfaces throughout a home and wait silently for someone to touch them. The grounding system reaches all the way from the main panel out to a grounding electrode driven into the earth. It also extends through the equipment grounding conductors that run alongside the circuits to every outlet and device in the home. Schultz Family Electric installs, inspects, and repairs grounding systems to the exacting standard the National Electrical Code requires. Understanding what grounding actually does makes clear why it is one of the most important safety systems in any home.

The grounding electrode system is the foundation that physically connects your home to the earth itself. This system typically includes ground rods driven deep into the soil, sometimes paired with one or more additional electrodes. A metal water pipe, the concrete encased reinforcing steel in a foundation, and ground rings can all serve as electrodes. The code specifies which electrodes a particular home must use and exactly how they must be connected together. These electrodes give both fault current and surges a path into the earth, where they dissipate harmlessly. The connection from the panel to the electrodes must be sized and made correctly to do its essential job. A corroded or loose grounding electrode connection quietly undermines the entire system without any obvious sign. We inspect these connections closely, since our humid coastal soil and salt air accelerate corrosion considerably. We install the electrodes and the connections the code requires for your specific home and soil conditions. A solid grounding electrode system is the anchor that the whole grounding scheme ultimately depends on.

Equipment grounding conductors carry the protective path from the panel out to every device throughout your home. These conductors, often the bare copper or green wire in a circuit, connect the metal parts of equipment back to ground. When a fault energizes the metal case of an appliance, the equipment ground gives that current somewhere safe to go. That path lets the breaker sense the fault and trip, cutting the power before anyone can be harmed by it. Without an equipment ground, a faulted appliance can sit energized and dangerous with no warning whatsoever. The third prong on a grounded plug connects to this very conductor for exactly this kind of protection. We confirm that every circuit has a proper, continuous equipment ground from the panel all the way to the device. We pay special attention to older homes, where the equipment ground is very often missing entirely. Adding that ground where it is absent is one of the most valuable safety upgrades a homeowner can make. A complete equipment grounding path protects every device in the home and everyone who reaches out to touch it.

Older homes around Angleton frequently lack the grounding that modern electrical safety genuinely depends on. Many were wired in an era of two wire systems that included no equipment grounding conductor at all. The telltale sign is the two prong outlet, which simply has no place to connect a grounded plug. These ungrounded systems leave appliances, electronics, and the people using them without the protection that grounding provides. A surge protector cannot even function as intended without a ground to divert the surge safely into. We frequently find two prong outlets, ungrounded circuits, and missing grounding electrodes in the older homes we visit. Bringing these systems up to a properly grounded standard dramatically improves the safety of the entire home. Sometimes we can run a proper ground to existing circuits, and sometimes a GFCI offers a code compliant alternative. We explain the options honestly so you understand clearly what each one does and does not actually provide. Grounding an older home is an investment that protects the family living in it for many years to come.

Bonding works closely alongside grounding to keep the metal in your home at a safe and equal potential. While grounding connects the system to the earth, bonding ties metal parts together so no voltage difference builds between them. The two systems are related but distinct, and both are genuinely required for a safe electrical installation. Bonding the metal water pipes, the gas pipes, and other metal systems prevents them from becoming dangerously energized. If a fault touches a bonded metal system, the bonding gives that current a path and the breaker trips as it should. Without bonding, a person touching two metal surfaces sitting at different potentials could complete a circuit through their body. We install the bonding the code requires throughout a home, connecting the various metal systems correctly and securely. We pay close attention to the bonding at the panel, the water heater, and the other key points in the system. Proper bonding and proper grounding together form one complete protective system rather than two separate ideas. We treat both of them with the seriousness they genuinely deserve on every single job.

Grounding problems often hide quietly until they reveal themselves through subtle but troubling symptoms. A mild shock or tingle when touching an appliance is a classic and serious sign of a grounding fault. Electronics that behave strangely, or audio equipment that hums persistently, can also point straight to a grounding problem. A surge protector that fails to protect your equipment may simply be plugged into an ungrounded outlet. Outlets that test as ungrounded or improperly wired reveal real faults somewhere in the grounding path. These symptoms are easy to dismiss as minor, yet each one signals a real and potentially dangerous problem. We diagnose grounding issues with proper testing and instruments rather than guessing at the likely cause. We use testers to confirm whether outlets are grounded and whether the protective path is actually intact. We trace the grounding from the panel all the way to the device to find exactly where it fails. Finding and correcting a grounding fault restores the protection that your home is supposed to have all along.

Every grounding job at Schultz Family Electric follows the same careful, thorough process from start to finish. We begin by inspecting the grounding electrode system that physically connects your home to the earth. We check the equipment grounding conductors that carry the protective path to every circuit and device. We test the outlets to confirm they are properly grounded and correctly wired throughout the home. We inspect the bonding of the metal water pipes, gas pipes, and other metal systems. We identify any gaps, corrosion, or faults in the grounding and bonding that we find. You receive a fair, upfront price before any work begins, with no unwelcome surprises waiting at the end. The diagnostic fee disappears the moment you choose us to perform the work for you. We explain what we find in plain language so you fully understand your home’s protection. Every job we complete carries our lifetime craftsmanship warranty, and a knowledgeable person always answers when you call.

The Importance of a Licensed Electrician for Electrical Grounding in Angleton

Grounding is a safety system whose protection is invisible until the moment a fault occurs, which makes correct installation critical. A licensed electrician understands the grounding electrode system, the equipment grounds, and the bonding that together keep a home safe. That license is earned through exams, supervised field hours, and proven competence, none of which an untrained person can offer. In Angleton, grounding work often forms part of a permitted job that a licensed contractor must handle and document. The danger of getting it wrong is real, because a missing or faulty ground leaves a fault free to energize metal surfaces. A licensed electrician knows how to test the grounding, find the gaps, and correct them to the code. Insurance coverage can hinge on this too, since improper grounding tied to a fire or injury may void a claim. Schultz Family Electric holds license number 748217 and backs every job with a lifetime craftsmanship warranty, so the work is documented and guaranteed. When the protection stays invisible right up until it has to save a life, the expertise of a licensed electrician is what makes it reliable. For a system this fundamental to your safety, that expertise is well worth it.

Commonly Asked Electrical Grounding Questions

Grounding gives fault current a safe path to the earth and protects your family from shock, yet it stays invisible until a fault occurs. These are the questions Angleton homeowners ask us most often about electrical grounding:

Electrical grounding gives stray and fault current a safe, controlled path instead of letting it pass through a person. In a properly grounded system, a fault sends current down the grounding path rather than into anyone who touches the equipment. That path allows the breaker to sense the fault and trip, cutting the power before harm can occur. Grounding connects your electrical system both to the earth and to the metal parts of your equipment. The connection to the earth handles surges and helps stabilize the system’s voltage. The connection to equipment gives a faulted appliance somewhere safe to send its current. Together, these connections form the protective backbone of a safe electrical system. Without grounding, a fault has no safe path and the danger falls on whoever is nearby.

The protection grounding provides is easy to take for granted because it stays invisible. Most of the time, no fault occurs and the grounding system simply waits in the background. The moment a fault does happen, that waiting system springs into action to protect you. A grounded appliance with an internal fault sends current to ground rather than to your hand. A surge from a storm finds the grounding path to the earth instead of frying your electronics. This quiet, constant readiness is exactly what makes grounding so valuable. A home without it loses that protection entirely, often without anyone realizing it. The whole point of grounding is to be there when it is suddenly needed.

Schultz Family Electric makes sure your grounding is ready to protect you. We inspect the grounding electrode system that connects your home to the earth. We check the equipment grounds that protect every circuit and device. We test outlets to confirm the protective path is intact. We identify any gaps or faults that leave you unprotected. We correct the problems we find to restore full protection. We explain how your grounding works in plain terms. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. Reliable grounding is the protection your home depends on every day.

There are several ways to tell whether a home is properly grounded, and some are easy to spot. Two prong outlets are an immediate sign that those circuits lack an equipment ground. Three prong outlets suggest grounding, though they do not guarantee the ground is actually connected. A mild shock or tingle from an appliance points to a grounding problem. Electronics that misbehave or audio gear that hums can signal a grounding fault. A surge protector that fails to do its job may be in an ungrounded outlet. These visible signs hint at the grounding, but only testing confirms the truth. An outlet tester or a professional inspection reveals whether the grounding is genuinely intact.

The only reliable way to confirm grounding is to test it properly. A three prong outlet can be present yet have no ground actually connected behind it. Some outlets are wired with a false ground that looks fine but offers no protection. The grounding electrode connection at the panel can corrode and fail silently. The equipment ground can be broken somewhere along a circuit without any visible sign. Testing checks the actual path from the outlet back through the system. We use proper testers to confirm whether each outlet is truly grounded. This testing turns guesswork into a clear answer about your safety.

Schultz Family Electric tests your home’s grounding to give you a clear answer. We test the outlets to confirm whether they are genuinely grounded. We inspect the grounding electrode connection at the panel. We check the equipment grounds for breaks along the circuits. We look for false grounds and improper wiring that hide a lack of protection. We explain exactly what we find in plain terms. We recommend the corrections needed to make your home safe. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. A proper test tells you the truth about your home’s grounding.

Installing a three prong outlet without a real ground behind it is dangerous and against the code. The three prong outlet implies grounding to anyone who uses it, but the protection is not actually there. A device plugged in expects the ground to carry away a fault, and that path does not exist. This false grounding is more dangerous than an honest two prong outlet. The user trusts protection that is simply not present. The code prohibits this exact situation because of the false sense of security it creates. A surge protector plugged into a falsely grounded outlet cannot function either. This is a shortcut that puts people at real risk.

There are proper, code compliant ways to handle an ungrounded circuit. The best solution is to run a real equipment ground to the outlet. When running a ground is impractical, a GFCI offers a code compliant alternative. A GFCI protects against shock even without a ground, since it senses current leaking to ground. The code allows a GFCI to replace an ungrounded two prong outlet when properly labeled. The label must note that the outlet has no equipment ground. This honest approach protects the user while acknowledging the limitation. We use these proper methods rather than the dangerous false ground shortcut.

Schultz Family Electric handles ungrounded outlets the right way. We never install a three prong outlet with a false or missing ground. We run a proper equipment ground to the outlet when that is feasible. We install a GFCI as a code compliant alternative when running a ground is impractical. We apply the required label noting the lack of an equipment ground. We explain what the GFCI does and does not protect against. We help you choose the right solution for your home. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. Doing it correctly protects you instead of fooling you.

Getting a shock from an appliance is a clear warning of a grounding fault you should not ignore. The shock means current is escaping the appliance and finding a path through you. In a properly grounded system, that current would flow down the equipment ground instead. When the ground is missing or broken, the faulted current has nowhere safe to go. Your body becomes the path the moment you touch the energized metal. This is exactly the danger that grounding exists to prevent. A mild tingle is a warning, and a stronger shock is a serious hazard. Either deserves prompt professional attention before someone is badly hurt.

The shock can come from a few related causes. The appliance itself may have an internal fault energizing its case. The outlet may lack a proper ground to carry that fault away. The equipment ground in the circuit may be broken somewhere. An ungrounded two prong system offers no protection at all. Moisture can also create a leakage path that produces a shock. Identifying the real cause requires testing the appliance and the circuit. We trace the fault rather than simply guessing at it. Finding the true source is what makes the fix reliable.

Schultz Family Electric finds why an appliance is shocking you. We test the outlet to confirm whether it is properly grounded. We check the appliance circuit for a broken or missing ground. We determine whether the fault is in the appliance or the wiring. We confirm the grounding path back through the system. We correct the grounding fault to restore protection. We explain what we found in plain terms so you understand it. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the repair. Fixing the grounding fault removes a real and serious danger.

Grounding and bonding are related safety systems that serve different but complementary purposes. Grounding connects your electrical system to the earth through a grounding electrode. That earth connection handles surges and gives fault current a path away from people. Bonding, by contrast, connects metal parts together so they share the same electrical potential. Bonding ensures no dangerous voltage difference can build between two metal surfaces. The two systems work together, but they are not the same thing. Grounding is about the connection to the earth, while bonding is about connecting metal parts to each other. A safe installation requires both done correctly.

Understanding the distinction clarifies why both matter. Grounding alone would not prevent a voltage difference between two unbonded metal surfaces. Bonding alone would not give fault current a path into the earth. A person touching two metal parts at different potentials could be shocked without bonding. A surge with no path to earth could damage the system without grounding. The metal water pipes, gas pipes, and equipment all need bonding. The system as a whole needs grounding to the earth. Together they form one complete protective scheme.

Schultz Family Electric installs both grounding and bonding correctly. We install the grounding electrode system that connects your home to the earth. We bond the metal water pipes, gas pipes, and equipment together. We connect the bonding to the grounding system as the code requires. We confirm no dangerous potential difference exists between metal surfaces. We test the grounding path to the earth for integrity. We explain the difference in plain terms so you understand both. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. Proper grounding and bonding together keep your home safe.

An older home often benefits significantly from a grounding upgrade. Many older homes were wired with two wire systems that include no equipment ground. The two prong outlets throughout such homes reveal this lack of grounding. Without grounding, appliances and electronics have no protective fault path. The people using them lose the protection grounding provides. Surge protectors cannot function properly in an ungrounded home. Modern electronics especially benefit from a properly grounded system. A grounding upgrade brings an older home up to a safe, modern standard.

The right upgrade depends on the home and its wiring. In some homes, we can run a proper equipment ground to the existing circuits. In others, a GFCI provides a code compliant alternative where running a ground is impractical. The grounding electrode system may also need updating to current standards. We evaluate the whole system to determine the best approach. We consider your safety, your electronics, and your budget. We explain the options honestly so you can choose. The goal is real protection brought up to a modern standard.

Schultz Family Electric upgrades the grounding in older homes correctly. We inspect the existing system to understand what it lacks. We run proper equipment grounds where that is feasible. We install GFCI protection as a code compliant alternative where needed. We update the grounding electrode system to current standards. We explain each option in plain terms so you can decide. We never push more than your home genuinely needs. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. A grounding upgrade protects your family in an older home.

Grounding plays a key role in protecting your home against power surges. A surge is a sudden spike of voltage that travels through the electrical system. The grounding path gives that excess voltage somewhere safe to go. A surge protector diverts the spike to the grounding system, which carries it to the earth. Without a proper ground, the surge protector has nowhere to send the surge. That is why a surge protector cannot function in an ungrounded outlet. The earth connection is what lets the surge dissipate harmlessly. Grounding is therefore essential to any surge protection scheme.

The relationship between grounding and surge protection is direct. Whole house surge protection at the panel relies on a solid ground to divert surges. The grounding electrode system carries the diverted surge into the earth. A corroded or inadequate ground weakens this protection. Our frequent Gulf Coast storms make surge protection especially valuable here. A strong grounding system makes that protection effective. We pair surge protection with proper grounding for full effectiveness. One without the other leaves a gap in your defense.

Schultz Family Electric grounds your home to support surge protection. We inspect the grounding electrode system that surges rely on. We confirm the ground can carry a surge safely to the earth. We correct any corrosion or weakness in the grounding path. We pair whole house surge protection with a solid ground. We explain how grounding and surge protection work together. We never install surge protection without confirming the ground. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. Strong grounding is what makes surge protection actually work.

Grounding should be inspected periodically, because its protection stays invisible until the moment a fault occurs. Unlike a light that obviously stops working, a failing ground gives no daily sign that anything is wrong. A connection can corrode or loosen for years while the home appears perfectly normal. The danger only reveals itself when a fault finally needs that protective path and finds it broken. Periodic inspection catches these silent failures before they leave you unprotected. An inspection every few years is a reasonable baseline for most homes. Older homes and those in harsh environments benefit from more frequent checks. Regular inspection turns invisible protection into confirmed protection.

Several conditions make inspecting your grounding more important. Our humid coastal soil and salt air accelerate corrosion at the grounding electrode connections. A home that has added circuits or major appliances may have outgrown its original grounding. After a significant storm or a known surge, the grounding deserves a look. Any shock, tingle, or misbehaving electronics is a reason to inspect right away. Buying or selling a home is another natural time to confirm the grounding. Electrical work of any kind is a good opportunity to check the system. These moments are when a quiet grounding fault is most worth catching.

Schultz Family Electric inspects your grounding to confirm it is ready to protect you. We check the grounding electrode connections for the corrosion our climate causes. We test the outlets to confirm the equipment grounds are intact. We inspect the bonding of the metal systems throughout the home. We look for the silent faults that give no daily warning. We explain what we find in plain terms so you understand your protection. We recommend corrections only where they genuinely improve your safety. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for any resulting work. A periodic inspection keeps your grounding ready for the moment it is needed.
