“I had an excellent experience with this electrician from start to finish. Communication was prompt and professional, the work was completed on schedule, and the quality of craftsmanship was outstanding. They took the time to explain the process clearly, addressed all of my questions, and ensured everything was completed safely and up to code. The attention to detail, professionalism, and respect for my home truly stood out. I would confidently recommend their services to anyone looking for reliable, high-quality electrical work. After a tree fell and took out the power line to our home, Brandon from Schultz Family Electric was at our house within the hour. After evaluating the damage, the news wasn’t great due to the age of our home, but Brandon immediately reassured us by saying, ‘Don’t worry. I got you.’ And he absolutely did. The entire housing setup needed to be upgraded, and he wasted no time getting started. He provided a precise and fair estimate, set us up with a generator for temporary power, and kept us informed every step of the way. Brandon and his coworker, Armando, completed the entire job in just one day. Their efficiency, professionalism, and dedication during such a stressful situation were truly exceptional. Brandon and Armando are genuinely good people: trustworthy, friendly, and honest. It’s rare to find contractors who combine such high-quality workmanship with integrity and compassion. I know I still have more projects to complete on my home, and Brandon will absolutely be the first person I call for any future electrical work.”

Would highly recommend! Brandon came to see us after hours the day we called to help us with our set up. We got a portable generator and had never owned any sort of generator before. He explained everything which we needed and any additional add-ons we might want for the future, but did not push us on ANYTHING. He showed us exactly the parts we needed on Amazon we could get ourselves to save a bit of money as well. Workers came out and were done in the span of 2 hours or so. They even did a little extra by routing the wiring so that the port outlet for the generator could be behind our fence as we asked for safety purposes. After all was done they showed us the steps on getting the generator running during outages and we did a test run so make sure all went well. They will also do maintenance and checks on your generator annually or bi-annually each year so to make sure all is well before hurricane season. Definitely will be my go to electrician.

Generator Installation Service

Generator installation is the work of connecting a backup power source to your home so it keeps running when the utility power fails. Along the Gulf Coast, where storms and outages are a regular fact of life, a generator is far more than a simple convenience. It keeps the refrigerator cold, the air conditioning running, and the lights on even when the grid goes completely down. The value of any generator depends entirely on how safely and correctly it is connected to your home. A generator wired improperly can backfeed the grid and endanger utility workers, or it can damage your home’s electrical system. Schultz Family Electric installs generators with all the care and code knowledge that this critical work genuinely demands. We install the transfer switch that safely separates your home from the grid the moment the generator runs. We size the generator and the circuits to the loads you actually need to power during an outage. We handle the permits, the inspections, and the connections that any safe generator installation requires. Understanding everything that proper generator installation involves shows clearly why it deserves a licensed professional.

The transfer switch is the single most important part of any safe generator installation. A transfer switch safely disconnects your home from the utility grid the moment the generator takes over. This separation prevents backfeed, which is generator power flowing back out onto the utility lines. Backfeed is extremely dangerous, since it can electrocute the utility workers who are repairing those lines. It can also damage your generator and your home’s wiring the moment the utility power returns. A transfer switch makes this critical separation automatic and safe every single time without fail. We install the transfer switch that properly matches your generator and your home’s specific needs. An automatic transfer switch starts the generator and switches the load without any action from you at all. A manual transfer switch instead requires you to start the generator and switch the load yourself. Connecting a generator without a proper transfer switch is both illegal and genuinely life threatening. We install the right type for your generator and explain clearly how it works.

Sizing the generator correctly is absolutely essential to powering what you actually need during an outage. A generator that is too small simply cannot run the loads you depend on when the power fails. A generator that is too large costs more than necessary without giving you any added benefit. We carefully calculate the loads you want to power to determine the right generator size for you. A whole house generator can run nearly everything, including the demanding air conditioning system. A smaller generator might power just the essentials like the refrigerator, the lights, and a few outlets. We help you decide which loads matter most to you and your family during an outage. We size the generator and the circuits carefully to match those real priorities. We confirm the generator can handle the heavy starting surge of large loads like air conditioning. A load management system can also let a smaller generator power more by sharing capacity. Proper sizing gives you exactly the backup power you need without ever paying for more.

Standby and portable generators serve genuinely different needs, and we install both kinds. A standby generator is permanently installed and starts automatically the moment the power fails. It runs on natural gas or propane and requires no action from you at all during an outage. A portable generator is instead moved into place and connected only when you actually need it. A portable generator costs less, but it requires you to set it up and fuel it yourself. We help you choose the type that genuinely fits your needs and your budget. We install standby generators with the automatic transfer switch and the fuel connection they require. We install the proper inlet and transfer switch that let a portable generator connect safely. We never allow a generator to connect through a dangerous method like an unsafe suicide cord. We explain all the tradeoffs clearly so you can choose the right generator for your home.

Fuel and placement are both important considerations in any proper generator installation. A standby generator connects to a steady fuel source, usually either natural gas or propane. We coordinate the fuel connection carefully so the generator has the supply it genuinely needs. The generator must be placed at a safe distance from the home and from all of its openings. Proper placement keeps the dangerous exhaust well away from windows, doors, and air vents. Carbon monoxide from a running generator is deadly, so the placement matters enormously for safety. We place the generator where it runs safely and fully meets all the code requirements. We carefully consider the noise, the access for future service, and the required clearances in the placement. We handle the coordination with the fuel supply for any standby generator we install. Natural gas offers an unlimited supply, while propane requires a tank that must be kept filled. Proper fuel and proper placement together keep the generator running safely whenever you need it most.

Our Gulf Coast location makes a backup generator especially valuable for homes throughout the area. Storms, hurricanes, and ordinary grid problems cause outages that can last for hours or even days here. A generator keeps your home livable and your family safe and comfortable during those long outages. It keeps the air conditioning running in our intense heat and the refrigerator reliably cold. It powers medical equipment, sump pumps, and other essentials that simply cannot wait for the grid. We understand the kinds of outages our area faces and install generators built to handle them. We size the generator carefully for the realistic outages that our climate regularly produces. We install the generator to withstand our humid, salty, coastal conditions over the long term. We help you genuinely prepare for the next storm rather than simply enduring it unprepared. A standby generator also protects you when an outage strikes while you are away from home. A generator is one of the best investments you can make for storm season along this coast.

Every generator installation at Schultz Family Electric follows the same careful, thorough process from start to finish. We begin by fully understanding exactly which loads you need to power during an outage. We then size the generator and the circuits carefully to match all of those priorities. We install the transfer switch that safely separates your home from the grid every time. We coordinate the fuel connection and place the generator safely and to the code. We handle all the permits and coordinate the inspection that the work genuinely requires. You receive a fair, upfront price before any work begins, with no unwelcome surprises at the end. The diagnostic fee disappears the moment you choose us to perform the installation for you. We test the entire system thoroughly to confirm it works exactly as intended before we ever leave. We also show you how the system operates so you understand it during an outage. Every installation we complete carries our lifetime craftsmanship warranty, and a knowledgeable person always answers when you call.

The Importance of a Licensed Electrician for Generator Installation in Angleton

Generator installation involves a transfer switch, high current connections, and fuel that all demand real professional expertise. A licensed electrician knows how to install the transfer switch that prevents the deadly backfeed an improper connection causes. That license is earned through exams, supervised field hours, and proven competence, none of which an unlicensed installer can offer. In Angleton, generator installation requires a permit and an inspection that only a licensed contractor can pull and coordinate. The danger of getting it wrong is severe, because backfeed can electrocute utility workers and damage your home. A licensed electrician sizes the generator correctly and connects it safely rather than through a dangerous shortcut. Insurance coverage and the generator warranty often depend on the work being done to code by a qualified professional. Schultz Family Electric holds license number 748217 and backs every installation with a lifetime craftsmanship warranty. When a generator must connect to your home and the grid safely, the expertise of a licensed electrician is essential. For backup power your family depends on, that expertise is well worth it.

Commonly Asked Generator Installation Questions

A generator keeps your home running through an outage, but only when it is sized correctly and connected safely with a proper transfer switch. These are the questions Angleton homeowners ask us most often before scheduling generator installation:

A standby and a portable generator differ in how they are installed and used. A standby generator is permanently installed outside your home. It starts automatically the moment the utility power fails. It runs on natural gas or propane and needs no action from you. A portable generator is moved into place and connected when you need it. A portable generator costs less but requires you to set it up and fuel it. The standby offers convenience and automatic operation, while the portable offers lower cost. The right choice depends on your needs and your budget.

The practical differences matter a great deal during an outage. A standby generator powers your home automatically, even when you are away. A portable generator requires you to be home to start and connect it. A standby runs on a fixed fuel supply with no refueling during the outage. A portable must be refueled regularly, often during the storm itself. A standby can power the whole home, while a portable powers select circuits. Both must connect through a proper transfer switch for safety. We help you weigh these differences for your situation.

Schultz Family Electric installs both standby and portable generators correctly. We discuss the advantages of each type for your needs. We install standby generators with the automatic transfer switch and fuel connection. We install the inlet and transfer switch for a portable generator. We size either type to the loads you need to power. We connect both safely, never through a dangerous shortcut. We explain the tradeoffs in plain terms so you can decide. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. The right generator gives your home reliable backup power.

A transfer switch is required for any generator connected to your home. The switch safely separates your home from the utility grid when the generator runs. This separation prevents backfeed, which is generator power flowing onto the utility lines. Backfeed can electrocute the utility workers repairing those lines. It can also damage your generator when the utility power returns. A transfer switch makes this separation safe and automatic. Connecting a generator without one is both illegal and dangerous. The transfer switch is the foundation of a safe generator connection.

The danger of skipping a transfer switch is very real. Some people connect a generator with a dangerous suicide cord. That method backfeeds the grid and can kill a utility worker. It can also damage your home’s wiring and your generator. A transfer switch eliminates this danger entirely. An automatic transfer switch handles the separation without any action from you. A manual transfer switch lets you make the separation safely yourself. We never connect a generator without a proper transfer switch.

Schultz Family Electric installs the right transfer switch for your generator. We install an automatic transfer switch for a standby generator. We install a manual transfer switch and inlet for a portable generator. We confirm the switch safely separates your home from the grid. We never connect a generator through an unsafe shortcut. We explain how the transfer switch works in plain terms. We back the installation with our lifetime craftsmanship warranty. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. A proper transfer switch keeps everyone safe when the generator runs.

The right generator size depends on which loads you want to power. A whole house generator can run nearly everything, including the air conditioning. A smaller generator might power just the essentials like the refrigerator and lights. We calculate the loads you want to power to determine the right size. The generator must handle the starting surge of large loads like air conditioning. A generator that is too small cannot run what you depend on. A generator that is too large costs more without added benefit. We size the generator to match your real priorities.

Deciding which loads to power is the first step in sizing. Some homeowners want everything to run as if the power never failed. Others want just the essentials to keep the home livable. Medical equipment, sump pumps, and the refrigerator are common priorities. The air conditioning is a large load that many want in our heat. We help you decide which loads matter most to you. We size the generator and circuits to match those choices. A load management system can also stretch a smaller generator further.

Schultz Family Electric sizes your generator correctly. We discuss which loads you need to power during an outage. We calculate those loads to determine the right generator size. We confirm the generator handles the starting surge of large loads. We size the circuits and transfer switch to match. We consider a load management system where it helps. We explain the sizing in plain terms so you understand it. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. A properly sized generator powers what you need without waste.

A standby generator monitors the utility power continuously through its transfer switch. The automatic transfer switch watches for the utility power to fail. The moment the power drops, the switch signals the generator to start. The generator starts up and reaches full power within seconds. The transfer switch then connects the generator to your home’s circuits. All of this happens automatically without any action from you. When the utility power returns, the switch reverses the process. The generator shuts down and your home returns to grid power.

The automatic operation is what makes a standby generator so convenient. You do not need to be home for the generator to work. The system protects your home even when you are away. The transfer switch handles the entire process safely and automatically. The generator also runs periodic self tests to confirm it is ready. This automatic readiness is a key advantage of a standby system. The system simply works when you need it without your involvement. We set up and test this automatic operation during installation.

Schultz Family Electric installs standby generators that work automatically. We install the automatic transfer switch that monitors the utility power. We connect the generator so it starts the moment the power fails. We confirm the system reaches full power within seconds. We set up the automatic return to grid power when it restores. We confirm the generator runs its periodic self tests. We explain how the automatic operation works in plain terms. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. An automatic standby generator protects your home without any effort.

Yes, a whole house generator can power your entire home during an outage. A standby generator sized for the whole house runs nearly everything. That includes the air conditioning, the refrigerator, the lights, and the outlets. The generator must be sized to handle the total load of the home. It must also handle the starting surge of large loads like air conditioning. A whole house generator runs on natural gas or propane for a long supply. This option keeps your home running as if the power never failed. We size and install a whole house generator to match your home.

A whole house generator is the most comprehensive backup option. It removes the need to choose which loads to power. The home simply runs normally through the outage. This convenience comes at a higher cost than a smaller generator. The generator must be large enough for the home’s full demand. The fuel supply must support running the whole home for extended periods. We confirm the generator and fuel supply can handle your home. We help you decide whether a whole house generator fits your needs.

Schultz Family Electric installs whole house generators correctly. We calculate your home’s full load to size the generator. We confirm it handles the starting surge of large loads. We install the automatic transfer switch for seamless operation. We coordinate the fuel supply for extended running. We place and connect the generator safely to the code. We explain the option in plain terms so you can decide. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. A whole house generator keeps your home running normally through any outage.

A standby generator connects to a steady fuel source, usually natural gas or propane. A natural gas generator connects to your home’s existing gas supply. A propane generator connects to a propane tank on your property. The fuel connection must be made safely and to the code. We coordinate the fuel connection as part of the installation. Natural gas offers an unlimited supply as long as the service runs. Propane offers independence but requires a tank that must be kept filled. We help you choose the fuel that fits your home and situation.

The fuel choice affects how the generator operates during an outage. Natural gas runs the generator without any refueling during the outage. The supply continues as long as the gas service is intact. Propane requires a tank sized for the running time you need. A larger tank runs longer before it needs refilling. We size the propane tank for realistic outages in our area. We coordinate the connection with the appropriate fuel supplier. We confirm the fuel system supports the generator safely.

Schultz Family Electric handles the generator fuel connection correctly. We coordinate the natural gas or propane connection for your generator. We make the fuel connection safely and to the code. We help you choose between natural gas and propane. We size a propane tank for realistic outages in our area. We confirm the fuel system supports the generator reliably. We explain the fuel options in plain terms so you can decide. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. A proper fuel connection keeps your generator running when you need it.

Yes, a generator installation requires a permit in nearly every case. The work involves the transfer switch, electrical connections, and often a fuel connection. That work is significant enough to require official oversight. A permit ensures the installation is reviewed against the current code. The inspection confirms the transfer switch and connections are correct. The fuel connection may require its own permit and inspection. A licensed contractor pulls the permits and coordinates the inspections. Skipping these steps is both unsafe and against the rules.

The permit and inspection process protects you in real ways. It confirms the transfer switch is installed correctly to prevent backfeed. It verifies the electrical connections are safe and properly sized. It ensures the fuel connection meets the code. It creates a documented record that the work was done right. That record matters for your insurance and any home sale. It also protects the generator manufacturer’s warranty. The inspection catches any issue before it becomes a hazard.

Schultz Family Electric handles the entire permit and inspection process. We pull the required permits before the work begins. We install the generator to the full standard of the code. We coordinate the inspections so the timing works smoothly. We are fully licensed under number 748217, which the permit requires. We stand behind the inspected work with our lifetime craftsmanship warranty. We explain each step so you understand the process. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. Handling the paperwork correctly is part of doing the job right.

A standby generator needs regular maintenance to stay ready for the next outage. Like any engine, it requires periodic service to run reliably. Most standby generators need maintenance about once a year. The service includes checking the oil, the filters, and the battery. It also includes confirming the generator starts and runs correctly. A generator that sits unused still needs this regular attention. Skipping maintenance risks the generator failing exactly when you need it. Regular service keeps the generator ready to protect your home.

There are good reasons a standby generator needs this attention. The engine oil degrades over time even when the generator sits idle. The battery that starts the generator can weaken and fail. The fuel system and connections need checking for reliable operation. The generator runs periodic self tests, but those do not replace real service. A generator that has not run in a long outage may reveal hidden problems. Catching those problems during maintenance prevents a failure during a storm. The annual service is a small investment in reliable backup power.

Schultz Family Electric helps keep your standby generator ready. We check the oil, filters, and battery during service. We confirm the generator starts and runs correctly. We inspect the transfer switch and connections for problems. We verify the fuel system supports reliable operation. We catch small problems before they cause a failure. We explain the maintenance your generator needs in plain terms. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for any resulting work. Regular maintenance keeps your generator ready for the next outage.
