“I had an excellent experience with this electrician from start to finish. Communication was prompt and professional, the work was completed on schedule, and the quality of craftsmanship was outstanding. They took the time to explain the process clearly, addressed all of my questions, and ensured everything was completed safely and up to code. The attention to detail, professionalism, and respect for my home truly stood out. I would confidently recommend their services to anyone looking for reliable, high-quality electrical work. After a tree fell and took out the power line to our home, Brandon from Schultz Family Electric was at our house within the hour. After evaluating the damage, the news wasn’t great due to the age of our home, but Brandon immediately reassured us by saying, ‘Don’t worry. I got you.’ And he absolutely did. The entire housing setup needed to be upgraded, and he wasted no time getting started. He provided a precise and fair estimate, set us up with a generator for temporary power, and kept us informed every step of the way. Brandon and his coworker, Armando, completed the entire job in just one day. Their efficiency, professionalism, and dedication during such a stressful situation were truly exceptional. Brandon and Armando are genuinely good people: trustworthy, friendly, and honest. It’s rare to find contractors who combine such high-quality workmanship with integrity and compassion. I know I still have more projects to complete on my home, and Brandon will absolutely be the first person I call for any future electrical work.”

Would highly recommend! Brandon came to see us after hours the day we called to help us with our set up. We got a portable generator and had never owned any sort of generator before. He explained everything which we needed and any additional add-ons we might want for the future, but did not push us on ANYTHING. He showed us exactly the parts we needed on Amazon we could get ourselves to save a bit of money as well. Workers came out and were done in the span of 2 hours or so. They even did a little extra by routing the wiring so that the port outlet for the generator could be behind our fence as we asked for safety purposes. After all was done they showed us the steps on getting the generator running during outages and we did a test run so make sure all went well. They will also do maintenance and checks on your generator annually or bi-annually each year so to make sure all is well before hurricane season. Definitely will be my go to electrician.

Electrical Service Upgrade Service

An electrical service upgrade increases the amount of power your home can safely draw from the utility every single day. The service is the entire path that brings electricity from the power company’s lines into your home and distributes it to every room. That path includes the service drop or underground lateral, the meter base, the main breaker, and the panel that feeds each branch circuit. When any part of that system is undersized or outdated, your whole home is limited by that single weakest link. Decades ago, a house with sixty or one hundred amp service was perfectly adequate for the modest appliances of the day. Today’s homes run central air conditioning, electric ranges, multiple televisions, computers, and increasingly electric vehicle chargers all at once. That steadily growing demand can easily exceed what an older service was ever designed and built to handle. An upgrade raises the capacity, most often to two hundred amps, so the home has real room to operate safely. Schultz Family Electric evaluates your actual present load along with your future plans before settling on the right size. Getting that calculation right is exactly what separates a thoughtful, properly sized upgrade from a wasteful or inadequate one.

The signs that a home needs a service upgrade are usually clear once you understand what to look for. Breakers that trip whenever several appliances run together point to a service stretched well past its safe limit. Lights that dim noticeably when the air conditioner or another large load kicks on signal a service under real strain. A panel that has no open slots left forces homeowners into unsafe tandem breakers, power strips, or extension cords. The frequent use of cords and strips as permanent wiring reveals a home that is simply short on circuits. An older panel that feels warm to the touch or shows any scorch marks is a warning that demands immediate attention. Homes adding major loads like a hot tub, a workshop, or an EV charger almost always need more capacity first. We listen carefully to these symptoms and then verify each one with real measurements during our evaluation. The decision to upgrade should always rest on hard facts rather than rough guesses or sales pressure. We explain everything we find in plain, straightforward language so the final choice remains entirely yours to make. That honest, evidence based approach is the foundation of how we handle a project this important.

The meter base is a critical part of the service that an upgrade often must address head on. The meter base is where the utility’s power physically enters and is measured before it ever reaches your panel. An old or corroded meter base simply cannot safely carry the higher current that a larger service draws. Replacing it requires close coordination with the utility, since they control the power on their side of the meter. We schedule that coordination carefully so your power stays off for the shortest possible window of time. The new meter base must match the upgraded service size and meet the utility’s current standards exactly. Salt air and constant humidity along the coast corrode these outdoor enclosures far faster than in drier regions. We select equipment built specifically to resist that corrosion and then seal it properly against the weather. A solid, properly rated meter base is the literal foundation that the rest of the upgrade builds upon. We never cut corners on this part, because every component downstream depends entirely on it being right.

The service entrance conductors carry power from the meter all the way into the main panel inside. These conductors must be sized to handle the full rated capacity of the new, larger service without strain. Undersized entrance conductors overheat under heavy load and create a genuine and serious fire risk over time. When we upgrade a home to two hundred amps, the conductors must be properly rated for that full current. We replace any conductor that cannot safely and reliably carry the new load we are designing for. The conduit or cable protecting those conductors must also meet every requirement of the current code. Weatherheads, service masts, and the connections at the entrance all receive our close attention during an upgrade. These outdoor components face the full and relentless force of our Gulf Coast climate each and every day. We use materials and proven methods built to survive that harsh exposure for the long term ahead. A properly built service entrance keeps the higher capacity safe from the very moment it enters your home.

The main panel is the true heart of the upgraded service, and choosing the right one genuinely matters. A modern two hundred amp panel provides far more circuit space than the small, crowded panels of decades past. That generous extra space lets us add the dedicated circuits a modern home needs without crowding anything. We install a panel with real room for future growth, so the next addition will not require yet another upgrade. The panel must be rated for the full service size and built by a reputable, trusted manufacturer. We deliberately avoid the outdated and recalled panel brands that some older homes in the area still carry. Proper grounding and bonding at the new panel are absolutely essential to its long term safety. We connect the grounding electrode system precisely to code, which protects against both shock and damaging surges. Every breaker we install is rated for that specific panel and carefully matched to the circuit it serves. A well built panel is one you can rely on confidently for the next several decades of use.

Whole house surge protection pairs naturally and sensibly with a service upgrade in our storm prone region. When the panel is already open during an upgrade, it is the ideal moment to add surge protection. A surge protective device at the panel guards every circuit against the voltage spikes that storms and the utility create. Lightning, downed lines, and routine grid switching all send damaging surges through unprotected homes without warning. Those surges quietly destroy electronics, expensive appliances, and even the very wiring we have just finished upgrading. Adding the protection during the upgrade costs far less than retrofitting it as a separate job later on. We explain this option honestly and then let you decide without any pressure to add it. Many homeowners wisely choose to protect their fresh investment while the panel is already open and accessible. The combination of a modern service and solid surge protection gives a home strong, lasting defense. We design the protection to match the new panel and the specific loads it will feed every day.

Every electrical service upgrade at Schultz Family Electric follows the same careful, coordinated process from beginning to end. We begin by calculating your real electrical load and having an honest discussion about your future plans. We then design an upgrade sized precisely to your needs, not an arbitrary number pulled out of the air. We pull all the required permits and coordinate directly with the utility so the entire transition goes smoothly. We replace the meter base, the entrance conductors, and the panel together as one fully integrated system. We ground and bond the new service exactly to code for both safety and surge resistance. Our electricians keep the work area clean throughout and minimize the time your power must be off. You receive a fair, upfront price before any work begins, with no surprise charges waiting at the end. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us, and every upgrade carries our lifetime craftsmanship warranty. When you call, a knowledgeable person answers and guides you through a project as important as this one.

The Importance of a Licensed Electrician for Electrical Service Upgrade in Angleton

An electrical service upgrade is among the most demanding and safety critical jobs in any home. A licensed electrician understands how the service entrance, meter, and panel must work together as a system. Licensing requires passing exams, completing supervised hours, and proving real competence with high current work. In Angleton, a service upgrade requires permits, inspections, and utility coordination that only a licensed contractor can handle. The work involves the main service conductors, which carry enough current to cause severe injury or death. Improper grounding or undersized conductors can create fire hazards that hide for years. A licensed electrician sizes every component correctly and bonds the system to protect your family. Insurance coverage often depends on this work being permitted and performed to code. Schultz Family Electric holds license number 748217 and backs every upgrade with a lifetime craftsmanship warranty. When the entire home’s power runs through the work, hiring a licensed professional is the only responsible choice.

Commonly Asked Electrical Service Upgrade Questions

An electrical service upgrade raises your home’s power capacity and replaces the aging equipment that limits it. These are the questions Angleton homeowners ask us most often before scheduling a service upgrade:

Several clear signs point to a home that has outgrown its electrical service. Breakers that trip when multiple appliances run at the same time are a common warning. Lights that dim noticeably when the air conditioner or another large load starts up signal a strained service. A panel with no open slots left forces unsafe workarounds like tandem breakers or power strips. Reliance on extension cords as permanent wiring shows the home simply lacks enough circuits. A panel that feels warm or shows any scorching needs professional attention right away. Homes built decades ago often carry sixty or one hundred amp service that modern life overwhelms. Recognizing these signs early lets you upgrade before a real problem develops.

Major lifestyle changes often create the need for an upgrade even in a sound home. Adding central air conditioning increases the load substantially on an older service. Installing an electric vehicle charger demands significant capacity that older panels rarely have to spare. Building a workshop, adding a hot tub, or finishing a garage all increase the home’s electrical demand. A kitchen remodel with new electric appliances can push an older service past its limit. Home additions that add rooms also add circuits and load. Each of these projects should start with an honest look at the existing service. We evaluate whether the current service can support your plans before you invest.

Schultz Family Electric determines your real need with measurement, not guesswork. We calculate the load your home actually draws and compare it to the service capacity. We inspect the panel, the meter base, and the service entrance for age and condition. We consider your future plans so the upgrade serves you for years, not months. We explain in plain terms whether an upgrade is necessary or whether a smaller fix will do. We never recommend an upgrade you do not genuinely need. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. You make the decision with full information and honest guidance in hand.

The difference between one hundred and two hundred amp service is the total power capacity. Amperage measures how much current the service can safely deliver at one time. A one hundred amp service can carry a limited amount of load before it reaches capacity. A two hundred amp service carries twice that, giving a modern home much more headroom. That extra capacity matters as homes add more appliances and electronics every year. One hundred amp service was common in homes built decades ago for far simpler electrical needs. Today, two hundred amp service is the standard for new construction for good reason. The larger service simply matches the demands of how we live now.

The practical difference shows up in what your home can run comfortably. With one hundred amp service, running central air, an electric range, and other large loads can strain the system. Adding an EV charger or a hot tub to a one hundred amp service often is not possible without an upgrade. Two hundred amp service handles those loads with room to spare. It also provides more circuit space in the panel for dedicated circuits. That space lets an electrician add circuits safely without crowding the panel. The result is a home that operates reliably without tripping breakers under normal use. The larger service removes the limits that an older one imposes.

Schultz Family Electric helps you choose the right capacity for your home. We calculate your actual load rather than assuming you need the maximum. For many homes, two hundred amp service is the practical and future ready choice. For some, a different size may fit the real need and budget better. We explain the options clearly so you understand what each provides. We never oversize a job just to inflate the cost. Our recommendation rests on your real demand and your plans for the future. The right capacity gives you reliable power without paying for more than you need.

The time for a service upgrade depends on the scope and the home’s specifics. A straightforward panel and meter upgrade often takes a single day to complete. The actual power outage during the work is usually shorter than the full job. We coordinate with the utility to keep that outage as brief as possible. More complex upgrades that involve new conductors or a relocated panel take longer. Homes with difficult access or extensive corrosion may require additional time. We give you a realistic timeline before the work begins so you can plan. Every home is different, and we account for those differences in our estimate.

Several factors influence how long the upgrade takes from start to finish. The utility’s schedule for disconnecting and reconnecting power affects the overall timeline. The condition of the existing service entrance and meter base plays a role. Replacing corroded or damaged components adds time to the project. Permitting and inspection scheduling can affect when the work can be completed. Relocating a panel to a new location requires running new conductors and takes longer. Outdoor work along the coast sometimes uncovers corrosion that must be addressed. We plan for these variables so the project stays on track.

Schultz Family Electric works efficiently while never rushing safety critical steps. We arrive prepared with the right equipment and materials for your specific upgrade. We coordinate the utility and the inspection so the pieces fall into place smoothly. We keep your power off for the shortest reasonable time during the work. We test the completed service thoroughly before restoring full power. We keep the work area clean and minimize disruption to your home. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the upgrade. A well planned upgrade is completed efficiently and built to last for decades.

Many homes need a service upgrade before adding an electric vehicle charger. A Level 2 EV charger draws significant power, often forty to sixty amps. That demand can push an older one hundred amp service beyond its safe capacity. Whether you need an upgrade depends on your existing service size and current load. A home already running central air and electric appliances may have little capacity left. Adding a heavy EV charging load to a strained service invites tripped breakers and overheating. We perform a load calculation to determine whether your service can handle the charger. That calculation gives a clear answer rather than a risky guess.

Some homes can add an EV charger without a full service upgrade. A home with two hundred amp service and a modest existing load often has room for a charger. In other cases, load management devices can let a charger share capacity safely. These devices reduce charging when other large loads are running. We evaluate whether such an approach fits your situation. When the service truly lacks capacity, an upgrade is the safe and lasting solution. We explain which path fits your home honestly and clearly. The goal is safe, reliable charging without overloading your system.

Schultz Family Electric handles EV charger projects from the service to the outlet. We calculate your load to determine whether an upgrade is needed first. We size the service and the charger circuit correctly for safe operation. We install the charger on a dedicated circuit matched to its requirements. We ground and protect the circuit to code for your safety. We explain the options, including load management, in plain terms. We never push an upgrade if your service can handle the charger safely. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. The result is dependable charging built on a service that can support it.

An electrical service upgrade is an investment that pays back in several ways. The most important return is safety, since an overloaded service is a real fire risk. An upgrade removes that hazard and gives your home the capacity it needs. The added capacity lets you run modern appliances without tripping breakers or straining the system. It also makes future additions like an EV charger or a hot tub possible. A modern service often increases your home’s value and appeal to buyers. Outdated or recalled panels can even raise concerns during a home sale or inspection. Removing those concerns protects both your safety and your investment.

The cost of an upgrade depends on your home’s specifics and the scope of work. The service size, the condition of the existing equipment, and the panel location all factor in. Replacing a corroded meter base or relocating a panel adds to the project. Permitting and utility coordination are part of the total as well. We provide clear, upfront pricing after evaluating your actual situation. We explain what each part of the work involves and why it is needed. We never pad the job with work that does not serve you. Honest pricing is part of being your electrician for life.

Schultz Family Electric helps you weigh the value for your particular home. We consider your safety, your current needs, and your future plans. We explain how the upgrade addresses the problems you are experiencing. We point out the long term benefits in plain, practical terms. We never pressure you toward a larger or more expensive upgrade than you need. The lifetime craftsmanship warranty reflects our confidence in the lasting value of our work. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the upgrade. A properly sized upgrade delivers safety, capacity, and value for decades to come.

Sometimes adding circuits to an existing panel is possible, and sometimes it is not. The answer depends on the panel’s capacity and how much of it is already used. A panel with open slots and unused capacity may accept new circuits safely. A panel that is full or near its rated capacity cannot take more load without risk. Adding circuits to an overloaded panel invites tripped breakers and overheating. The total connected load must stay within the service and panel rating. We perform a load calculation before adding any circuit to confirm there is room. That calculation prevents the dangerous mistake of overloading the panel.

There are limits beyond just available slots in the panel. A panel may have open slots yet still be near its service capacity in actual load. Tandem breakers can fit two circuits in one slot, but only where the panel allows them. Crowding a panel with too many circuits creates heat and safety concerns. Some older panels are not safe to add to regardless of available slots. Outdated or recalled panels should be replaced rather than expanded. We evaluate both the slot availability and the real load before recommending an approach. Adding circuits is only the right answer when it can be done safely.

Schultz Family Electric tells you honestly whether adding circuits is the right move. We calculate your existing load against the service and panel capacity. We inspect the panel’s condition, age, and manufacturer for safety concerns. When there is genuine room, we add the circuits safely and to code. When the panel is full or unsafe, we explain why an upgrade is the better path. We never overload a panel just to avoid a larger project. Our recommendation always rests on safety and your real situation. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the work. You receive honest guidance toward the solution that actually fits your home.

During a service upgrade, your power will be off for part of the work. The utility must disconnect power so we can safely replace the service equipment. We coordinate the timing of that disconnection with the utility in advance. The goal is to keep the outage as short as the work allows. Most of the preparation happens before the power is ever turned off. We stage materials and complete what we can while the home still has power. Then the utility disconnects, we perform the critical work, and power is restored. Careful planning keeps the actual outage to a minimum.

There are a few things to expect around the outage itself. You will want to plan for the time your home is without power. Refrigerators and freezers stay cold for a while if you keep the doors closed. Sensitive electronics should be unplugged before the work as a precaution. We let you know the expected outage window so you can prepare. The utility controls the exact reconnection time on their end. We schedule the work to align the utility and the inspection efficiently. Clear communication keeps the day predictable for your household.

Schultz Family Electric manages the outage to minimize the impact on you. We coordinate closely with the utility for the disconnection and reconnection. We complete as much preparation as possible before the power goes off. We work efficiently during the outage to restore power promptly. We test the new service fully before energizing it for safety. We keep you informed throughout the day so there are no surprises. We treat your home and your time with respect during the entire process. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the upgrade. A well coordinated upgrade keeps your home’s downtime short and the result safe.

Yes, an electrical service upgrade requires a permit and an inspection in nearly every case. The work involves the main service equipment that carries power into your entire home. That equipment is far too important to safety to be installed without official oversight. A permit ensures the upgrade is reviewed against the current electrical code. An inspection confirms the completed work actually meets that code before the power is energized. The utility also requires this process before they will reconnect a new or upgraded service. A licensed contractor is the one who pulls the permit and coordinates the inspection. Skipping these steps is both illegal and genuinely dangerous for your home.

The permit and inspection process protects you in several meaningful ways. It ensures the conductors, grounding, and panel all meet the safety standards in force today. It creates a documented record that the work was performed correctly and to code. That record matters when you sell your home, since buyers and inspectors look for it. It also protects your homeowner’s insurance, which can be jeopardized by unpermitted electrical work. An unpermitted upgrade can give an insurer grounds to deny a future fire related claim. The inspection catches any issue before it becomes a hidden hazard in your walls. This oversight is a safeguard, not an obstacle, and it works entirely in your favor.

Schultz Family Electric handles the entire permit and inspection process for you. We pull the required permit before the work on your service begins. We perform the upgrade to the full standard of the current electrical code. We coordinate the inspection and the utility reconnection so the timing aligns smoothly. We are fully licensed under number 748217, which the permit process requires. We stand behind the inspected work with our lifetime craftsmanship warranty. We explain each step so you understand the process from start to finish. The diagnostic fee disappears when you choose us for the upgrade. Handling the paperwork correctly is simply part of doing the job right.
